Maintenance of Certification Process for DCAS Energy Management Institute BOC Alumni
The CUNY School of Professional Studies (CUNY SPS) has oversight for the Department of Citywide Administrative Services Energy Management Institute (EMI). Effective January 2023, CUNY SPS is transferring the administration of BOC credential maintenance to Building Potential (formerly the Northwest Energy Efficiency Council, or NEEC), the national administrator of the BOC program.
To help you understand how this process works, a few frequently asked questions are provided below.
The transition is meant to simplify your credential maintenance experience and enhance the value of your credential by offering you direct access to NEEC’s standard graduate communication, continuing education, and credential maintenance processes. The transfer of this responsibility also allowed CUNY SPS to have more focus on delivering BOC training for your agency. |
As a credential holder in the national BOC program, you will receive a free subscription to the BOC Bulletin, a semi-annual newsletter; discounted tuition on BOC Technical Webinars; and information about continuing education opportunities for maintenance of your BOC credential. |
The annual renewal cycle begins in August and ends in March. Maintenance points for the current renewal year are eligible only during this timeframe.
- The next deadline for maintenance of your BOC credential is March 29, 2024.
- You will receive a renewal notification from NEEC in January 2024 with renewal instructions. Thereafter, BOC renewal is annual and due on the last business day in March.

Continuing education requirements for credential maintenance remain the same:
- BOC Level I Training Certificate of Completion (TCOC) = 5.0 hours per year
- BOC Level II Training Certificate of Completion (TCOC) and Certified Building Operator (CBO) =10.0 hours per year
Note: Each hour earned = 1 point.
